Before discussion at Tuesday’s meeting, Mayor Mike McCormick expressed concern board members were “a little rough” at the last meeting with Village Parks and Recreation Director Todd Strubhart and Village Engineer Richard Beran. “All that they have done is what this board has directed them to do,” McCormick said. “They were just doing their jobs.” In 2019, Godfrey applied for a grant through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources for the first phase of the Glazebrook Park expansion. The application was successful and Godfrey will be awarded $400,000 for the project. Half of the money has been received and is being held until the completion of the project when a reimburse

LOUIS The University of Missouri-St. Louis College of Nursing has signed a new articulation agreement with Lewis and Clark Community College’s East St. Louis Higher Education Center. The agreement provides support for 15-20 underrepresented minority students each year as they begin pursuing their Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees through the newly created Bridge to BSN program. “The field of nursing lacks representation in some areas,” said Justine Patterson, an academic advisor in the College of Nursing who has been involved in establishing the partnership. “This is a great opportunity to help change that by expanding our network and allowing these students a smoother path to a career in the field. I think it’s going to be great for the field of nursing and the overall St. Louis community.”

GODFREY Of all the roadmaps to a reliable, well-paying career, Lewis and Clark Community College’s Truck Driver Training program could be described as an expressway of sorts. Since it launched in Fall 2014, 86 percent of program graduates almost immediately landed a job in the industry, according to Program Coordinator Kent Ripperda. Of the remaining 14 percent, over half of those graduates went on to further their education in the field. The jobs waiting to be filled come with a good paycheck, too.
