FirstEnergy s push to defend House Bill 6 payments as contributions appears to veer from corporate strategy

It fired top executives, dropped its longtime lobbyists in Columbus and brought in a new ethics officer. It even studied its process of political giving. The company also said it was cooperating with the Justice Department over House Bill 6, a $1.3 billion bailout of two nuclear plants once owned by a subsidiary. Federal authorities have accused the utility and its affiliate of paying $60 million in bribes to then-Ohio House Speaker Larry Householder and a clique of allies to prime the legislative pump.

The building dates to the late 19th Century. It was once owned by Yankees owner Jacob Ruppert, and more recently by Lewis Katz, who owned the Nets and Devils. NYC Department of Buildings elevator records show no violations since 2013. However, a worker did die in a fall at the building in late 2019.

Could changes to Columbus police be enacted through a consent decree?

Generally, we’re talking about an extended period of time, Kenney said of consent decree timelines.  In 1994, Congress gave the Department of Justice the power to address a pattern and practice of police misconduct within departments and to sue cities for civil relief. Consent decrees can involve any government agency, but are most commonly used with police departments. Since that time, how many investigations and decrees are started each year has become somewhat political. While President Barack Obama was in office, there were 25 investigations launched, resulting in 15 consent decrees entered into by the DOJ. By contrast, there were only three consent decrees during the administration of President George W. Bush.
