So, when he asked me, a lowly junior, to hang out with him and a couple of his buddies, I couldn’t resist. Oh, and he was Black. The evening started well. We cruised the town in his dad’s car, visited the usual hangouts. Talked about girls, grades, cars, college. He and his pals were being recruited by big-time football schools. Life held promise.
