STAFF FILE PHOTO/PAUL FRANZ Modified: 5/2/2021 1:36:40 PM WENDELL A former police officer has filed a discrimination complaint against the town, claiming he was let go because he is white an assertion the town’s Selectboard chair called “utterly baseless.” Christopher Maselli worked for the Wendell Police Department until the town opted to not reappoint him to his position when the current fiscal year began on July 1. He filed his complaint through the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, a civil rights agency that was founded in 1946 to enforce the state’s anti-discrimination laws, investigate complaints of discrimination as a neutral entity, prosecute cases and offer preventative training.

However, it was withdrawn by petitioner Jim Perkins after explaining that he would like to revisit the resolution to develop one that is in keeping with the wishes of tribal people in the area.

Leverett Community Builders Committee organizing cleanup effort Staff Report Published: 4/20/2021 3:24:14 PM LEVERETT In honor of Earth Day, the Leverett Community Builders Committee is spearheading a community-wide cleanup effort on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. The event, which has a rain date of Sunday, is co-sponsored by the town Energy Committee as well as the Leverett Elementary School and its Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO). According to a press release from Energy Committee member Peggy Wolff, Leverett Community Builders emerged out of a desire for more community-wide events that are of interest to all ages. The group strives to create welcoming, fun and engaging activities to encourage interaction and counteract isolation.
