Valley News - Forum, Jan. 23: Linking Lebanon school officer and COPS grant is mistaken

Forum, Jan. 23: Linking Lebanon school officer and COPS grant is mistaken Published: 1/22/2021 10:00:10 PM Modified: 1/22/2021 10:00:06 PM Linking Lebanon school officer and COPS grant is mistaken The decision whether to discontinue the School Resource Officer position at Lebanon Middle School will be on the ballot March 9. Lebanon asked the Department of Justice to fund two full-time, entry-level officer positions with the goal of building trust and respect. The officers’ duties would include activities such as hosting “Coffee with a Cop,” not policing Lebanon’s schools. Chief Richard Mello, at a March 4, 2020, City Council meeting, verified that “the COPS grant funds were never used for School Resource Officers.” A statement that the grant actually prohibits the use of the award to fu

Valley News - Despite pandemic, some Town Meeting sessions remain in-person, indoors

Despite pandemic, some Town Meeting sessions remain in-person, indoors Modified: 1/13/2021 2:44:48 PM LEBANON Logistical and legal hurdles surrounding Town Meeting procedures have led at least two Upper Valley communities to schedule in-person sessions this month, despite calls from public health officials to avoid large gatherings during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Lebanon School District and the town of Grafton both plan to hold indoor deliberative sessions where voters can debate and amend warrant articles from the floor the morning of Saturday, Jan. 30. Meanwhile, officials with the town of Canaan and the Mascoma Valley Regional School District say they’re likely to follow suit.

Valley News - Forum, Dec. 20: Support your local school district

Forum, Dec. 20: Support your local school district Published: 12/19/2020 10:00:15 PM Modified: 12/19/2020 10:00:13 PM Support your local school district School models this fall have changed constantly based on COVID-19 cases appearing in schools. And what works for one family is not going to work for another. The Lebanon Middle School has experienced such change, and all the while families complain and make their voices heard in a negative manner to an exhausted administration. Please extend support to your local school district by voicing your opinion in a positive way. The decisions being made by superintendents, administrators and school nurses are not being made lightly, believe me. Hours and hours are spent determining what is best for the safety and well-being of everyone in a school building: custodians, kitchen staff, office staff, support staff, educators, nurses and students. Until you have spent a day in a school building following a teacher, paraeducator or student

Lebanon Middle School prepares holiday food baskets for students

LebTown December 18, 2020 2 min read Mr. Mark Snavely (a 1992 Lebanon High School graduate) and Harrington Hoists Inc, presenting their generous donation in the amount of $1,000. Their kindness and thoughtful gift will help to provide Lebanon Middle School families with meals for the holidays. (Picture: Mrs. Kayce Heck, Mr. Mark Snavely, Mr. Guillermo Barroso, and Mr. Dan Rau) The pandemic notwithstanding, Lebanon Middle School’s 25-year-old tradition of providing holiday food baskets for local families will continue. “In past years, Lebanon Middle School staff members delivered the food baskets to the homes of our students,” 7th-grade school counselor Robin Lerch explained. “This year we are going to have a drive-up food pick-up for the randomly identified families to safely drive or walk to Lebanon Middle School to pick up the food.”
