Disappointment as Covid forces cancellation of Leinster minor finals

THE Leinster Minor Football and Hurling Championship finals have been postponed after the Government ruled this evening that they can t proceed under the latest Covid-19 restrictions.
The Leinster Minor Hurling Championship final between Offaly and Kilkenny had been fixed for Portlaoise on Saturday, January 2 with the Leinster Minor Football Championship decider between Offaly and Meath down for Parnell Park, Dublin on the following day.
The U-20 hurling championship has been also put on hold after the Government informed the GAA this afternoon that minor and U-20 games can t take place after December 27.

The Leinster Minor Hurling and Football Championship finals have been fixed for successive days on the first weekend in January.
The Leinster Minor Hurling Championship final between Offaly and Kilkenny is in Portlaoise on Saturday, January 2 at 2.00pm.
The Leinster Minor Football Championship decider between Offaly and Meath is on the following day, Sunday, January 3 at 2.00pm in Dublin s Parnell Park.
Both finals had originally been pencilled in for Sunday, January 3 but Offaly s presence in the two of them has resulted in a change of plans.

Hopes remain re-development can get underway in 2021

Kildare GAA Convention was held this evening, on zoom, and delegates were informed by Treasurer, Alan Dunney, that despite the disruption due to the coronavirus, and while the surplus for the year was down by some 50 per cent, he was still able to report a sum of €243,230 in the black.
That sum enabled the Board to add another €100,000 to their fund for the re-development of St Conleth s Park; a fund that now stands at €750,000.
Chairman, Mick Gorman, gave an update of St Conleth s Park, saying the re-development is to cost some €11m.
Duignan calls on clubs to embrace appointment of full time coaches during Convention address

OFFALY GAA chairnman Michael Duignan made a passionate plea to clubs to embrace the appointment of full time coaches (Games Promotion Officers) in his address to Offaly GAA Convention on Tuesday night.
Mr Duignan told delegates that the appointment of full time club coaches was a pivotal part of his vision for improving playing standards of Offaly football and hurling teams.
The Durrow club man noted that Edenderry (Mairead Daly) have a full time GPO while the appointment of one in Tullamore has been approved and one is due to take place for Birr, Drumcullen and Seir Kieran GAA Clubs in January.
