Gac Ma soldiers – immortal monument in Vietnamese people’s hearts Rear Admiral Phan Tuan Hung, Deputy Commander of the Naval Force, recently led a delegation to visit soldiers and officers on mission on islands of the Truong Sa archipelago, the central province of Khanh Hoa, and organised a ceremony to commemorate fallen soldiers in battle to defend Co Lin, Gac Ma and Len Dao reefs 33 years ago.
At the ceremony held on Co Lin, Colonel Le Xuan Phong, deputy head of the inspection committee of the Naval Force’s Party Committee, recalled the March 14, 1988 event, in which 64 naval soldiers and officers of Vietnam bravely sacrificed their lives to protect the nation’s sea and island sovereignty.
In opening the session,
NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan
said the one-day meeting is to finalise
preparations for the upcoming 11th meeting of the 14th legislature and collect opinions on the draft reports on working performance of
the 14th NA and the NA Standing Committee, personnel work, the
outcomes of monitoring the settlement of voters’ suggestions sent to the 14th NA’s 10th meeting, and public opinions sent to the 14th NA’s 11th meeting.
She asked lawmakers to consider personnel work in a thorough
and cautious manner, ensuring that high consensus will be reached at the 11th meeting regarding positions in the State apparatus.

Gac Ma Reef of
Truong Sa archipelago, a sacred territorial part of the Fatherland, to pay
tribute to officers and soldiers who heroically fought until their last breath
for the country’s maritime sovereignty.
The March 14, 1988 event,
which was associated with Gac Ma, Co Lin, and Len Dao reefs, has become
immortal in the struggle for independence and freedom of Vietnam.

Thanking them for participating
in the event, the PM emphasised that their cooperation remains extremely
important to Vietnam. Vietnam has studied cases of several deltas in Europe and
other parts of the world and looked into models, practices and lessons learned
from many countries, he said, it is important to not only boost economic cooperation but also foster experience sharing in climate change response in
deltas.
He underscored the significance
of resources to the development of the Mekong Delta in the face of severe
natural disasters, saying he hopes foreign partner countries and international organisations
