The father of two Mount Joy siblings who were killed in a fiery crash in East Petersburg on Saturday night said he believes his childrenâs deaths could have been avoided if the traffic light at the intersection where they were struck by a tractor-trailer had a longer delay before changing colors.
âA three second delay would have saved my children,â said Len Kasper, 43.
Kasper noted that the traffic light at Graystone Road and Main Street (Route 72), where his daughter Brandie, 21, and son Lenny, 18, were struck by a car-hauling tractor-trailer, is an instant light, without a delay before the signal for north and southbound traffic switches on for east and westbound traffic.

The Daily Herald has won 11 awards in the 2020 Peter Lisagor award competition, sponsored by the Chicago Headline Club.
In lieu of its annual banquet, the Headline Club on Friday announced the winners virtually.
It s so gratifying when other media professionals deem our staff s work worthy of accolades, said Managing Editor Jim Baumann. But while awards are nice, it s doing good for the community and our readers that s paramount.

That was a lot of people in the booth. But Ryne Sandberg was actually pretty funny and informative and Boog and JD leave a lot of space their broadcast is very spare. I appreciate that they’re so pro. Boog wasn’t my first choice but he does good work. I’m sorry, but I don’t miss Len Kasper so much. I
am looking forward to Pat Hughes doing the job today, though. Was that a bathrobe Taylor was wearing? Looked comfy, if a little fluffy.
“The reason that [the Statcast broadcast] matters to me is players are using this information every day,” White Sox voice Jason Benetti said. “I say this to Stoney [Sox analyst Steve Stone] a lot: ‘If you were pitching in this era, you would absolutely use this, right?’ He’s like, ‘Oh, totally.’ ”

When ESPN aired the National League wild-card game between the Cubs and Rockies in 2018, the network produced an alternate version of its regular game broadcast based on MLB’s Statcast tracking for the first time. White Sox announcer Jason Benetti handled the play-by-play.

Cesar Valdez’s name has graced this column a handful of times over the past year, most recently a month ago when I asked him about his powerful paralyzing perfect pachydermous percussion pitch. (No, the Baltimore Orioles reliever doesn’t actually call it that, but given that Bugs Bunny changeups make up the lion’s share of his deliveries, he arguably should). Since the start of last season, Valdez has thrown the mesmerizing offering an eye-popping 83.1% of the time.
The Red Sox have faced the 36-year-old slow-baller on three occasions so far in April, so I asked Boston hitting coach Tim Hyers what kind of advice he gives his charges when Valdez is on the bump.
