CALGARY A fire between two northeast homes Thursday caused minimum damage thanks to a quick-thinking homeowner. Calgary fire crews received a call around 1:15 p.m. about a fire at 27 Harvest Oak Gate in northeast Calgary. When crews arrived, a home owner already had one or more garden hoses on the fire. Damage was limited to siding and exterior wood on the two homes. There was also damage to a gas meter. No one was injured.

CALGARY New data has led to new advice about AstraZeneca’s vaccines being safe for Canadian seniors, but it is not expected to make a significant difference to Alberta’s vaccine rollout. Since the AstraZeneca vaccine s initial approval for use in this country last month, Canada s National Advisory Committee on Immunizations (NACI) said it used three real-world studies to justify expanding its advice to include those 65 and older. But at a news conference this week, Alberta’s top doctor suggested that it wouldn’t change vaccination plans much. “We ll be looking at who would be able to receive vaccine or who wouldn t already have had it offered to them and take that into account,” said Dr. Deena Hinshaw on Monday.
CALGARY CTV News has learned upward of 1,000 positions are being eliminated in the second edition of a workforce reduction as a result of the acquisition of Husky by Cenovus Energy. The notices were being handed out in two shifts on Tuesday, with the first taking place in the morning and the second in the afternoon. CTV has secured documents indicating the total number of Tuesday layoffs was expected to be between 800 and 1,000. Calgary-based Cenovus has not confirmed how many workers were relieved of their roles on Tuesday but the acquisition was expected to result in a reduction of between 20 to 25 per cent of the combined workforce of the two companies of approximately 8,600 employees and contractors.

FORT MACLEOD Some residents in the Fort Macleod area are raising concerns after a vaccine shipment failed to arrive as scheduled at one of the local pharmacies. A Claresholm couple told CTV News they were booked for an appointment Tuesday but received an email the day before telling them it had been rescheduled for March 19. The couple said they called the pharmacy at the Independent Grocer in Fort Macleod and were told their vaccine shipment didn’t arrive. “These are very stressful times,” said the couple in their 70s, who wanted to remain anonymous. “When you’re told your shot is tomorrow, only to find out its delayed because they have no vaccine, increases the stress level tenfold.”
