FRANKFORT, Ky. (Legal Newsline) – Fatherhood is much more than a $25 gift card, the Kentucky Court of Appeals has ruled.
The court on Feb. 5 rejected Lawrence Miller’s claim that he was entitled to settlement proceeds regarding his stillborn daughter, finding he’d abandoned her and her mother during the pregnancy.
The ruling affirms a Letcher County decision that Miller is not entitled to any money under what is known as “Mandy Jo’s Law.” He had tried to establish a relationship with the child and her mother by pointing at a $25 Walmart MoneyGram he sent Brittany Bunch for baby items. He also said he did not know he was the father until a DNA test.
FRANKFORT Appalachian Regional Commission is giving $2.5 million grants for two projects in eastern Kentucky that will upgrade waterlines and create an estimated 150 jobs.
FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Tri-County continues to see unemployment rates rise as does 111 other Kentucky counties between December 2019 and December 2020, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics
Among all of Kentuckyâs 120 counties, Logan County has the stateâs second lowest unemployment rate, according to the latest statistics released last week by the Kentucky Center for Statistics (KYSTATS), an agency of the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet.
In December, the jobless rate in Logan County was just 4.1%. Only neighboring Todd County had a lower rate at 4.0%.
Since Todd County is part of a different district, Logan County also had the lowest rate among the 10-county Barren River Area Development District. Monroe County had the second lowest rate at 4.4% and Allen County came in at 4.8%.
Other neighboring Kentucky counties included Warren (5.3%), Simpson (4.9%), Butler (5.6%) and Muhlenberg (7.7%).
