LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) â Housing advocates protested outside Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton s house Wednesday night as they continued to urge the mayor to implement a ban on evictions through the end of the spring. We need a local eviction moratorium, said Katie Kilcoyne of the Lexington Housing Justice Collective. We don t just need rental assistance because that is not buying people enough time to secure their homes.
The latest federal COVID-19 relief package provided $25 billion in rental assistance and extended the CDC moratorium on evictions for nonpayment until the end of January.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) â Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton said Monday she will wait to be vaccinated for COVID-19 until more doses are available for higher-risk people.
âI fully support the vaccine and will get one. But right now there is limited vaccine available, Gorton said. I want health care workers, first responders, long-term care residents, and others who are at high risk of getting COVID-19 to get the vaccine first.â
Gorton and Health Commissioner Kraig Humbaugh were scheduled to receive their initial dose of the COVID-19 vaccine during a live event Monday. That event was canceled Monday morning.
