South Carolina invests in 235 propane-fueled school buses
The South Carolina Department of Education will receive $23.6 million for 235 new, propane-fueled school buses with funding from the second round of the state’s share of the Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust.
The Department of Education also committed $87,400 to build two new propane fueling stations for the expanded propane school bus fleet throughout the state. The school districts expected to receive buses include: Aiken, Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Dorchester County School District Two, Greenville, Horry, Lexington School District One, Richland School District One, Richland School District Two and York School District Four.
South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster, Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman and South Carolina Department of Insurance (SCDOI) Director Ray Farmer announced the state’s total $24.54 million investment in school buses and public transit.
Through the fourth quarter of 2020, businesses in West Columbia received $56.8 million in health-related relief from the CARES act issued by the Department of Health and Human Services.
According to numbers reported through the fourth quarter of 2020, businesses in South Carolina received $1.2 billion in health-related relief from the CARES act issued by the Department of Health and Human Services. The largest recipient of funding in the state was Prisma Health-Upstate with a total of $131 million. The average loan size in the city was $747,808 while the state s average loan amount was $258,718.
Of the money distributed, $30 billion went out automatically to health providers based on previous year medicare payments. If the money wasn t returned within 90 days the provider is then automatically entered into the repayment terms that are issued by HHS. COLUMBIA, S.C. South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster, joined by SC Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman and S.C. Department of Insurance (SCDOI) Director Ray Farmer, announced $24.54 Million is set to be invested in school buses and public transportation.
The money comes from another round of funding from the state s share of the Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust, according to a release from the governor s office.
This will create funding for 235 new propane fueled buses to update the state’s school bus fleet. The money will also be used to buy three electric transit buses to be used in Charleston and Florence.
