Excalibur welcomed us to Dark and was joined on commentary by Anthony Ogogo and Taz..
1. John Skyler vs. “FTW” Champion Brian Cage. Cage plowed over Skyler as the bell rang, but Skyler threw thrust kicks in an attempt to stop him. Cage lifted up Skyler and planted him down on the mat. Cage ended Skyler quickly with the Drill Claw.
FTW Champion Brian Cage defeated John Skyler via pinfall.
Briar’s Take: Like every week, another dominant, quick match for Cage.
2. Serpentico vs. Lee Johnson (w/Arn Anderson). After dodging each other’s moves, Johnson hit a dropkick to Serpentico that sent him down on the mat. Serpentinco fired back by hitting strikes and hit a low DDT to Johnson. Serpentico flew over the ropes for a diving stomp. Johnson hit a swinging neckbreaker and then planted Serpentico on Johnson’s knee. Johnson won by hitting the Blue Thunder Bomb on Serpentico to pick up his first win on AEW Dark.

Let’s jump into this week’s episode of AEW Dark.
Mike Verna (0-3) vs. Ricky Starks (16-2) with Hook
Anthony Ogogo is back on commentary, so somehow the broadcast booth gets even better. Starks figures to provide his own commentary to take it to another level. I continue to discuss how Starks can completely flip the script on his opponent any time he wants, and he did that again in this one. Just when Verna got some offense going, Starks hit the spear for the win at 3:35.
The Big Takeaways:
It’s Tuesday and you know what that means.
Excalibur, Taz, and Anthony Ogogo opened the show. Ogogo was in and out on commentary and barely to be noticed.
Ricky Starks (w/ Hook) def. Mike Verna (3:26)
Hook walked Starks out and then went back to the locker room. Excalibur needled Taz on commentary about the potential of Starks being forced into a title match with Brian Cage should Cage beat Darby Allin in the TNT title match Wednesday. Starks gave Verna a little bit here and there, but mostly dominated the match. Verna got a near fall with a powerslam, but Starks finished him off with a spear.
