‘Nearly 9,000 health and social care staff yet to have their Covid jabs’ across Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes region
Some 8,900 health and social care staff across the Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes (BLMK) region are set to receive letters urging them to take their covid vaccines, a meeting heard.

And the BLMK partnership board, which brings together council and health service leaders, was also told that people in most vulnerable cohorts 1-4 could also be written to within days to overcome stubborn levels of “vaccine hesitancy”.
The board, meeting on Wednesday afternoon (yesterday), heard there is a particular problem of vaccine hesitancy among care home staff and over 80s from ethnic minority communities.
Blanes Lathwell said: Dad realised just how much he enjoyed driving dustcarts when he became a dustcart driver on the refuse team for Luton Borough Council. After moving to Lowestoft dad did some agency work driving HGV s and dustcarts for several different companies before eventually joining East Suffolk Council on the housing maintenance team.
Having joined the council in August 2006, Mr Lathwell s main role was clearing out empty council properties utilising his dustcart as a crusher for all rubbish and furniture.
His son said: This was bought for him specifically for this role so dad and his dustcart were a much loved team at the council, where he stayed until he became unwell in October.

A host of personnel across the armed forces have been recognised, including those who showed exemplary dedication during the Coronavirus pandemic. From providing essential workers with greater access to Covid-19 tests, to nursing care and providing logistical support across the four corners of the UK, the honours list praises the exceptional leadership, commitment and professionalism across the military this year.
The recognition follows a thank you from the Prime Minister last week who praised the Armed Forces for coming to the aid of the whole nation in the battle against the pandemic. He also praised their ongoing work across the globe to keep Britain safe during the festive season.
