When President Biden visits Louisiana Thursday heâll be meeting with state and local leaders. Among them, Coushatta Tribal Chairman David Sickey.
âI consider it a high honor and a privilege to be able to sit down for a few minutes with the president,â said Chairman Sickey. âIt will give us an opportunity to discuss the issues that are most important to us.â
Sickey says one of the primary issues heâll be discussing with President Biden is Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW). Studies show murder is the third-leading cause of death among American Indian and Alaska native women, and rates of violence on reservations can be up to ten times higher than the national average.

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - President Joe Biden made two stops in Louisiana on Thursday, May 6 in New Orleans and Lake Charles.
Biden pushed the case for his $2.3 trillion infrastructure plan in the reliably Republican state of Louisiana directly challenging GOP lawmakers who say that low taxes for corporations and the wealthy will fuel economic growth.
Biden is leaning into the stagecraft of the presidency on Thursday by choosing to speak in the city of Lake Charles in front of a 70-year-old bridge that is 20 years past its designed lifespan.
