Audit: Former clerk overpaid employee, took cellphone

Audit: Former clerk overpaid employee, took cellphone The previous Franklin Parish Clerk of Court might have violated state law by overpaying an employee and keeping a work-issued cellphone when she left, according to an audit released by the Louisiana Legislative Auditor this week. CPA Mary Jo Finley conducted the audit for the office for the fiscal year that ended June 30. Finley found that the town had four outstanding findings. The current Clerk of Court Anita Wygal took office on July 1. In January 2020, previous clerk Ann Johnson hired an employee as full time. A review of that person s hours cause doubt they met the full-time requirements. Nor did the person work full-time hours for the remainder of their employment until June 30.

Marcelle has been a state legislator since 2016, and her first piece of legislation directly tackled the city’s imminent water crisis. “Why not do what’s right for people?” she asked. Her legislation died in committee. So she tried again the next year and the next and the next and the next.
