King of Clutch Joe Robertson Plays With No Regrets When Game is on the Line

Friday May 28th, 2021 6:30am (Photo by Rachel Pincus/NCAA/Notre Dame Athletics) Growing up in Salem, Va., with three older brothers playing lacrosse against their brick garage next to their goal in the driveway, Joe Robertson used to time up his imaginary game-winning goals to match up with the commentary in old highlight videos.  One clip that always stood out to Robertson was when Ned Crotty found a cutting Max Quinzani, who with his weaker right hand delivered the game-winner with 12 seconds left in Duke’s 2010 semifinal win against Virginia. More specifically, Robertson would time it up to about 90 seconds into an old JLProductions3 “Best of College Lacrosse 2010” video.

Weird Lefties, A Give and Go, and Another Maryland Trip to Championship Weekend

“It was just kinda reading the defense and see what they were giving us,” said DeMaio. “They kinda played off some of the picks earlier in the game, so we thought that we could get that. Just something we’re always practicing. We have trust in each other and all the guys on the team.” Maryland coach John Tillman did not use his timeout, also stressing the trust between the two lefties. “Those guys have great chemistry. They’ve played together forever. When it comes to making decisions, I’ll take those two guys any days of the week,” said Tillman, who said that with a long break before the overtime, they talked about wanting to probe the Notre Dame defense a little bit before using a timeout, unless they got into trouble.  “I’m sure if it wasn’t there, Logan would have waited. If Anthony didn’t have the shot, he would have circled back and we would have gone into something else.”

Maryland Overcomes Second-Quarter Woes to Beat Notre Dame in Overtime

Sun May 23 2021 | Nelson Rice | College PHOTO BY DANIEL COLLERAN Maryland, questioned during a season in which it only played Big Ten foes, topped ACC power Notre Dame on Saturday. Despite Maryland advancing through its Big Ten schedule untarnished, despite Jared Bernhardt’s sizzling Tewaaraton-worthy campaign while leading an offense that averaged 16.23 goals per game and despite a defense that held opponents to under 10 goals a contest, one question persisted.  How would the Terrapins fare against the ACC? We got an answer this afternoon in South Bend at Arlotta Stadium. The Big Ten champs came out on top, but needed extra time to top sixth-seeded Notre Dame. Senior midfielder Anthony DeMaio completed a picture perfect give-and-go with Logan Wisnauskaus then stuck a shot over Liam Entenmann’s left shoulder to keep Maryland’s perfect season alive and clinch its 27th trip to Championship Weekend in program history.
