BATTLE GROUND The Hockinson Hawks had a streak of six consecutive 2A Greater St. Helens League titles on the line.

ULSTER MISSED THE chance to put additional pressure on Leinster at the top of Conference A in the Guinness Pro14 as they laboured to a 21-7 win over the Ospreys at Kingspan Stadium but failed to pick up that all-important bonus point.
Dan McFarland’s men were nearly kept scoreless at half-time on home soil as the Ospreys exerted a surprising amount of control over proceedings before the break, with only John Cooney’s try just before the interval getting them on the board.
After the restart, the province gave themselves a great chance to get the job done when John Andrew crossed and they were awarded a penalty try just after the hour mark, but, like in Glasgow a week prior, despite having plenty of time they couldn’t find the fourth try for the extra point.

RIDGEFIELD With its defense flying around, making big hits and forcing turnovers, Ridgefield didn’t look like a football team that has only had a couple weeks of full-contact practice.
But the Spudders didn’t need any polish when they have 14 months of raw pent-up energy.
Ridgefield (2-0) posted its second straight shutout in the delayed 2020-21 season, dominating Washougal 48-0 on Friday at Ridgefield High.
Sydney’s leading jockey Tommy Berry wasn’t going to let his hectic schedule stop him from riding French Bonnet and Deepfield Magic at Gosford on Wednesday.
Berry could easily have chosen to miss the low-key provincial meeting, particularly after riding into the evening at Warwick Farm on Australia Day then backing up quickly to ride at an important Rosehill barrier trials session in the morning.
Then there is the Canterbury Friday night meeting ahead of Saturday’s Expressway Stakes fixture at Rosehill Gardens, which heralds the unofficial start of the Sydney autumn carnival.
