£8.5m Humber Link Road opens between Grimsby and Immingham Almost two years in the making The new Humber Link Road between Grimsby and Immingham has now opened to the public. The £8.5 million, 2.5km road is expected to reduce travel time by up to 20 minutes in the area, and took 96 weeks to build. It stretches from Moody Lane in Grimsby to Hobson Way in Stallingborough, aiming to unite the port complexes in North East Lincolnshire. The three-phase project saw the opening up of a direct route to land, as well as replacing an unadopted stretch of private road, ending at Humber Gate in Grimsby.

Photo/Seth Chapman, File GAINESVILLE It s what you expect on the hardwood in mid-January.  The battle for region tournament seeding was on full display Tuesday night as the Gainesville boys basketball team (13-6, 5-2 Region 6-7A) battled back from a 15-10 first-quarter deficit and deflected several West Forsyth s blows to escape with a 59-52 victory at home.  Robert Reisman led Gainesville with a game-high 25 points. Eli Pitts finished with 15. Russell Miller and Joe Wortman had 12 each for the Wolverines (8-10, 2-5 Region 6-7A).

Yellow Jacket musicians earn placement in region band Stephenville Empire-Tribune Several Yellow Jacket Band members participated in the region band auditions recently. This was an unusual setting in that the auditions were held virtually for the first time. Fifth-two students earned placement in the region band and 25 will advance to the area round in January.  Region audition results: – Clarinet • Felisa Barron – 2nd chair Honors Band – Area • Bryson Jones – 3rd chair Honors Band – Area • Mayte Aguilar – 4th chair Honors Band – Area • Kameron Pritchard – 9th chair Honors Band – Area • Ben Wood 6th chair Symphonic Band – Area – Bass Clarinet • Diana Estrada – 1st chair Concert Band

Boys basketball: Gainesville, Banks County win; Johnson

CUMMING Robert Reisman scored 20 points and Eli Pitts had 14 to get Gainesville back on track in a 56-40 win over Denmark on Friday.  Reisman was the catalyst in the Red Elephants strong first-half performance, scoring 12 of his 20 to help Gainesville to a 37-16 halftime advantage. It also helped the Red Elephants weather a poor offensive performance in the third period. Denmark outscored Gainesville 15-4 to close the gap, 41-31.  Reisman (6 points) and Pitts (9 points, 5 of 6 from free throw line) combined for 15 points in the final period to preserve the win.  Sahmir King scored 6 points, while Charlie Reisman had 5, Jimmie Jackson scored 4, Ced Nicely with 3, and Dylan Bobga and Luke Blackburn added 2 points each. 

Great great grandson of Queen Victoria s Indian confidante in court on child sex charges

07:05 EDT, 15 December 2020 91 shares A man who proudly proclaimed himself to be the great-great grandson of Queen Victoria s confidant Abdul Karim is in court facing multiple child sex offences. Nabeel Syed, 39, is charged with 11 counts, including three rapes, against a girl who was just eight years old when the abuse is alleged to have started. Just over three years ago, Mr Syed, a financial advisor from Leicester, showed off his remarkable collection of black and white photographs showing his relative Abdul and Queen Victoria after researching his family tree. Karim was handpicked to help Queen Victoria learn about her Indian territories in the late 19th century and went on to be a Royal servant for 15 years.
