The slowdown of car assembly lines overseas is already being felt in Australia, which also may not fully recover for at least another six months. Most Top 10 car brands in Australia have notified dealers in the past few weeks via confidential bulletins to expect the stock shortages to get worse before they get better. While market leader Toyota says, for now, it remains largely unaffected because it has stockpiled semiconductors – a lesson it learned after recovering from earlier disasters which wiped out factories – other popular brands such as Hyundai, Kia, Nissan and Mitsubishi are being crippled with a shortage in vehicle supply.
