Is Taiwan s New Defense Strategy Enough to Protect them From a Chinese Invasion?
Taiwan must adopt an asymmetric defensive posture to ensure its security in the coming decades. That is, the country must focus its limited resources on deterring and, if that fails, defeating a Chinese invasion and occupation of Taiwan.
In the midst of an unprecedented wave of threats and provocations from Beijing, Taipei is rapidly reforming its armed forces and modernizing key parts of its military. Taiwan’s ongoing efforts run parallel to a new holistic approach known as the Overall Defense Concept (ODC). But what exactly is the ODC, and how does it seek to change Taiwan’s defense posture?

Prosecutors have decided not to press charges against two military officers who in 2017 hacked into a Ministry of National Defense Web site to test the military’s counter-cyberattack capabilities, the ministry said yesterday.
The Information Communication and Electronic Warfare Office said in a statement that it had asked the officers to try to hack the Web site as part of a drill to detect loopholes in the ministry’s firewall.
The statement came after the Chinese-language United Daily News yesterday reported that one of the officers had left the military following an investigation into the breach.

Taiwan Will Come to Regret Its New F-16 Purchases
Nearly a decade after first requesting them, the Taiwanese air force finally could get 66 new F-16 fighters to begin replacing some of its older fighter aircraft.
Here s What You Need to Remember: Fighters arguably are the least important system for this new strategy, although they could play an important role firing anti-ship missiles at Chinese invasion ships, according to Thompson. It’s likely, however, that few planes will survive China’s initial bombardment of Taiwanese airfield. “PLA strikes … will devastate Taiwan’s airbases.”
