Isolated heavy rain showers this morning resulted in several roads in the North Hills being shut down because of flooding, according to PennDOT.
The state transportation department has closed:
• Union Avenue (Route 4023) in Bellevue
• Seavey Road (Route 4004) in Shaler
• Rochester Road (Route 4011) in Franklin Park
Portions of Reis Run Road (Route 4022/4027) in Franklin Park have been reduced to a single because of a landslide.
The National Weather Service only recorded 0.05 inches of rain at Pittsburgh International Airport this morning, but the rainfall was significantly heavier in other parts of the region, with some communities getting nearly 1 inch of rain within a roughly 2.5-hour time span.
May showers bring May flowers? Yes they do.
The steady rains the area has received in the early part of this month are setting records. The seven straight days of precipitation that fell in the Pittsburgh-area from May 3 through May 9 brought an unprecedented total of 2.32 inches of rain.
On Mother’s Day alone, a total of 1.17 inches of rain fell, breaking the single-day record for that date of 1.02 inches set in 1966.
The previous rainfall records actually began toppling in late April. On April 29, the Pittsburgh area received 1.27 inches of rain, breaking the previous record for that date of 1.24 inches in 1964.
Gerald A. Hendricks
Nearly two years after the disappearance of LeeAnna Brumley, a second suspect has been indicted for her murder.
Gerald Avalon Hendricks, 55, of Science Hill, was indicted Wednesday by the Pulaski County Grand Jury on charges of Murder and Tampering with Physical Evidence in connection to Brumley s fatal shooting in the spring of 2019.
Hendricks joins 34-year-old Danelle Nicole Powell of Somerset, who was indicted for Murder back in January 2020. Her trial is currently scheduled to begin on August 16. Her original trial date had been last October before all trials were put on hold due to the pandemic.
Both Hendricks and Powell are charged in connection to the May 22, 2019, disappearance of Brumley a 25-year-old mother whom family members said battled addiction and frequently stayed with friends.
Corky L. Hendricks
A local man identified as a witness to the 2019 murder of LeeAnna Brumley is awaiting trial on a separate charge.
Corky Lee Hendricks, 40, of Science Hill, was initially due to stand trial last week on charges of Convicted Felon in Possession of a Handgun; Cultivation of Marijuana, 5 or More Plants (1st offense); and two counts of first-degree Persistent Felony Offender.
Hendricks current charges are not connected to the Brumley murder and he has not been charged in that case. However, he was appointed conflict counsel so that he wouldn t have to be represented by the local public defender s office, which had already been appointed to someone else also involved with the Brumley case.
