Once in awhile you meet someone who was absolutely born to do what theyâre doing.
Linda Van Powell of Corvallis is such a person. Powell owns Civic Outreach, and as such is one of the first faces many new professionals see when they move to the area.
âIâm the connector of Corvallis,â Powell said. She describes her work as meeting business leaders and their families who are new to the community, providing them with the information they need, and introducing them to local businesses and professionals, as well as to Oregon.
Long-established area businesses pay a monthly sponsorship fee for Powell s services. She works with local employers to learn of professional people moving to the area, and otherwise keeps her ear to the ground for this information.
GMI Construction has been appointed to deliver a £40m student accommodation project in Leeds.
The Carlton Hill scheme will see the demolition of a 20-year-old 239-bed student accommodation block and a new 15-storey, 604-bed tower built in its place. It is scheduled to be completed before September 2023. The scheme includes a communal garden on top of a three-storey block and a new courtyard.
GMI divisional managing director Lee Powell said the project was a “significant win” for the contractor, which would build on the company’s track record in the student accommodation market.
The Carlton Hill scheme is GMI’s second significant win in Leeds in recent months, following its appointment to build two new office buildings in the city last December.
