ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) -Georgiaâs state school superintendent announced heâs formed a group to discuss how to vaccinate teachers and staff when vaccine doses become available.
Dougherty County Superintendent Kenneth Dyer was asked to be part of that group.
âSuperintendent Woods asked me to serve on the working group to address a strategy for distribution of the vaccine for educators throughout the state,â said Dyer.
Dyer says that those working group meetings are being scheduled now and they are looking at holding them within the next two weeks.
Tupelo Public School District and Lee County School District leaders are beginning the spring semester with a sense of optimism.
TPSD Superintendent Dr. Rob Picou is hopeful but cautious as he and other district administrators monitor the COVID-19 situation daily and make decisions to keep teachers and students safe.
Picou visited the districtâs elementary schools shortly before Christmas break and said he realized âhow hard it must be to spend a whole day in there with a bunch of kids and wearing masks, paying attention to every little detail and focusing on keeping people safe.â
He commends the districtâs nurses, teachers, and principals for doing an unbelievable job in such a challenging situation. Because of the measures necessary to remain healthy â masked faces and physical distance â the superintendent believes the pandemic has reinforced the importance of positive relationships in education and beyond.
