Oxfordshire s empty high streets to be filled with pop up shops

Cornmarket Street during lockdown.23/01/2021.. POP up shops might be used to fill vacant buildings on high streets across Oxfordshire thanks to a £1.875 million grant from a group that backs businesses in the county. The project could see as many as 100 shops in town centres or the middle of Oxford brought into temporary use with start-up restaurants and retailers taking over them, under what is known as ‘meanwhile’ use. The project, dubbed ‘Meanwhile in Oxfordshire’ because of the aim to get businesses into empty shops while a more long-term solution is worked out, is part of a wider £8.4m being spent by the Oxfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership aimed at reviving the economy after Covid.

The 250-capacity bar will host a series of other games alongside Bavarian axe-throwing, including crazy golf, and beer pong, which led to police concerns it would increase demand on their weekend work in Oxford.

Oxford University Life and Mind Building given planning go-ahead

A TEMPLE to Science will be constructed on the site where an Oxford University building riddled with Asbestos was torn down. A new Life and Mind Building for the University of Oxford was given the go-ahead by Oxford City Council s west area planning committee on Tuesday night. The building on the corner of South Parks Road and St Cross Road will house two departments of the university: Experimental Psychology and a new Department of Biology, combining Zoology and Plant Sciences. It will replace the Tinbergen Building, a mid-20th century concrete building which was full of Asbestos and had previously been home to the Psychology and Zoology departments.
