Updated July 15, 2021 3:42pm US-based geospatial analyst and satellite image provider Simularity on Thursday encouraged the Philippine government to validate their findings on Chinese ships dumping waste in the West Philippine Sea to see its effects on the reefs. “My message to the government of the Philippines is: verify our findings, do your best to verify the findings, said Simularity founder and CEO Liz Derr during a forum by the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines. “We ve done this from space because that s really all anybody can do right now because the area is really militarized but I wholeheartedly encourage the government to validate our findings, question our findings, understand the science and see for themselves, she added.
MANILA, Philippines The dumping of human waste at the Spratly Islands, which has been going on for the last five years at least, may eventually damage coral reefs in the area, creating a “dead zone” that is unsuitable as a breeding place for fish.
This will cut down the food supply not only of the immediate vicinity of the islands but of all the coastal areas of the South China Sea, according to Liz Derr, co-founder and CEO of Simularity, who talked about the issue in an interview on Tuesday with the ABS-CBN News Channel.Read more.

Makabayan Bloc solons are urging the the House Committee on Aquaculture and Fisheries Resources, as well as the House Committee on Foreign Affairs to immediately conduct a probe into the matter. In the resolution, the lawmakers pointed out that the constant dumping of human waste and sewage destroys the reefs and marine life in that part of our territory.
