Lesley Fox, Executive Director of the Association for the Protection of Fur-Bearing Animals, who discussed the association’s efforts to end trapping in Canada.

With Mother s Day just two weeks away, local charity groups are joining together to make sure the memories of mothers who have passed away are not overlooked.
On Sunday, volunteers with the San Diego-based Comfort Cub and National Charity League will hold a Mother s Day prep event. Moms and their daughters will create an assembly line, tagging and preparing teddy bears to be shipped across the country to women who are grieving the deaths of their mothers.

Born Free USA applauds the reintroduction today of the Big Cat Public Safety Act in the U.S. Senate. Reintroduced by Sens. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Susan Collins (R-ME), Tom Carper (D-DE), and Richard Burr (D-NC), this bipartisan and now bicameral bill would strengthen existing law to better protect public safety and improve animal welfare by banning the private possession of big cat species. This important bill also bans all direct contact of big cat species by the public, thus removing a significant incentive to breed big cats for profit.

WASHINGTON, April 6, 2021 /PRNewswire/ Leading animal welfare nonprofit Born Free USA has today launched a comprehensive report on animal trapping in the United States, amending and updating work carried out in 2017 and providing each state with a score out of 100 based on its action to protect animals from cruel trapping. Only two states scored above 50/100, and almost half of the states scored just 25/100 or under. The findings present a sobering insight into this practice, which causes suffering and death to millions of animals each year. In addition to inadequate regulation, Born Free found traps, including those that are illegal to use in all 50 states, to be widely available for sale without restriction on online e-commerce platforms such as Amazon.
