Itâs National Crime Victimsâ Rights Week and the Livingston County Prosecutorâs Office is raising awareness for services they provide for survivors.
2021 marks the 40th anniversary of the event, with this yearâs theme being âSupport Victims. Build Trust. Engage Communities.â Locally, Crime Victimsââ Rights Week is traditionally celebrated with a luncheon and awards ceremony that highlights champions of the cause. Due to the pandemic, this is the second straight year that that wonât be viable.
However, thatâs not stopping the Prosecutorâs Office from spreading the word on the help they provide. Janice Carpenter is a Victim Advocate for the office and said they have come up with outside-of-the-box ideas like placemats for restaurants that information about local agencies that assist victims. Michigan state representative Jewell Jones is facing several charges in connection with a collision in Fowlerville last week.
The Livingston County Prosecutor’s Office announced Friday morning several charges made against Rep. Jones, who represents the sate’s 11th district, in connection with a traffic incident that occurred on April 6. Officials say Jones has been charged with four counts of resisting and obstructing a police officer, operating a motor vehicle with high blood alcohol content, operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, possession of a weapon under the influence of alcohol and reckless driving.
