A former county commission candidate says recent actions by the Howell City Council have inspired her to seek an open seat in the November election.
In a press release (attached below), Lee Ann Blazejewski described herself as a Howell native, registered nurse and PhD candidate in public health. She said her decision to run for the non-partisan seat on Howell City Council was made after observing âthe councilâs recent vote against reappointing someone who spoke in opposition to a past city council proposal.â

LIVINGSTON COUNTY, MI Livingston County commissioners claim the state of Michigan is distributing COVID-19 vaccines unfairly due to its use of social factors to determine allotment.
The state uses a Social Vulnerability Index, a metric from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, to establish a community’s virus risk level based on health and economic factors. But Livingston County officials want the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to stop using this metric, and replace it with a “scientific medical factor based plan” that results in uniform distribution.

In Washtenaw County where I live, the COVID-19 infection rate of Black residents is 13%, about the same as the percentage of Black residents int the county (12.3%). However, of the people who are hospitalized, 27% are Black and Black residents are 23% of those who die from virus. Worse yet, statewide, less than 5% of the people who have received the first shot of their two-shot vaccination are Black and fewer than 2% have received both shots.
This discrepancy between the people who are most likely to be hospitalized and/or die from COVID-19 is glaring neon sign telling us that vaccine distribution is not equitable. In other words, those who most need the vaccine are less likely to vaccinated, contributing to a public health crisis that makes things worse for ALL of us. Interested residents have until Friday to apply for a vacant seat on the Livingston County Planning Commission.
The Livingston County Board of Commissioners is looking to fill a vacancy for a member representing residential on the Livingston County Planning Commission. The Commission meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 6:30pm.
The posting for the position states that Planning Commissioners are expected to attend monthly meetings to review and make recommendations on rezoning cases, zoning ordinance and master plan amendments as submitted by the sixteen townships in the county.
Commission members receive mileage reimbursement and per diem compensation for each meeting they attend. Those interested in applying are asked to submit a resume and letter of interest by Friday. Details are available through the provided link.
