Relatives of one of the men who was a victim of the Tuskegee syphilis study says that the will will take the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as it becomes available to the general public. The egregious experiment that went on for 40 years staring in 1932 left hundreds of Black men infected with syphilis, when they in fact thought they were receiving treatment for the STD.
The experiment left the Black community wary of the medical community.
In an interview with Zora Magazine, Lille Tyson Head and Carmen Head Thorton, the daughter and granddaughter of one of the men say it shouldn’t be used as a reason to forgo protection against the coronavirus.
