Fitchburg State s Community Read of Underland continues April 17

Community Content Fitchburg State University’s Community Read of “Underland” by Robert MacFarlane continues with university faculty leading a virtual discussion of the book’s eighth chapter at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 17. “Red Dancers: Art Emerging from the Darkness” will be hosted virtually by the Leominster Public Library, one of the university’s Community Read partners. To attend the discussion, please register in advance at https://is.gd/7ppNyW. This event features Fitchburg State Professors Sarah Bromberg, Sally Moore and Jessica Robey, all of the Humanities Department. Robey will provide an overview of the discovery of prehistoric cave art and its reception in the 20th century. We ll look at how these earliest examples of culture lead to a reassessment of what it means to be human.

Lent, Piermarini reflect on the year that COVID-19 changed everything Sandy Quadros Bowles Correspondent When Nicole Piermarini walked through the doors of the Leominster Public Library for the first time as assistant library director on March 20, 2020, those same entrances had just closed to the public. With the pandemic, much had changed. But she was determined at least one thing wouldn’t: The public would receive the service they expected and deserved, although that service might be delivered in a different fashion. Piermarini was a familiar face in the area, having worked part-time in Leominster for seven years, as well as having experience at the Lunenburg Public Library.
