Senior year is coming to an end for the Class of 2021, culminating with in-person graduation ceremonies and college acceptances. Itâs a time of excitement and celebration for many. For many newly admitted University of Tampa students, though, thereâs plenty of angst and anger to go around. Read on for those stories and more Florida education news.

On June 25 and 26, the Leon County School Board will convene a Strategic Planning Retreat. It is my focus to include discussions about the “re-imaging” of our school district to respond to critical issues of concern and challenges in our community.
At the crux of these discussions will be a conversation on remedying poverty and teenage gun violence, and identifying ways to end the workforce crisis in health care and construction trades through the educational offerings of the Leon County School District.
In September 2019, I joined the Big Bend Minority Chamber of Commerce’s founder, attorney Sean Pittman, and president, Antonio Jefferson, on a fact-finding visit to Nashville, Tennessee, to see how that school district had responded to the workforce crisis in its community.
