(WTXL) — The Florida A&M University Al Lawson Center vaccination site gave its 10,000th dose on Wednesday morning. The recipient of the milestone vaccination was Tallahassee resident Joy McCallister, who received her second Moderna vaccine. “I want to do my part to get back to normal,” said McCallister, a mother of two who works for the Leon County Clerk’s Office. “I also want to protect my family.” The site was opened on Feb. 25 specifically to reach people of color and other underserved communities. Those groups have less access to free vaccines and appear to be more affected by vaccine hesitancy.

Low-cost legal assistance is coming to Leon County

A new program offering low-cost legal services will open Tuesday.  The Low Bono Center, which will be located on the first floor of the Leon County Courthouse, will provide inexpensive legal guidance in a variety of cases, including family law, small claims and residential.  The cost of the attorney consultation is $1 per minute for any amount of time between 15 minutes and an hour. A customer can receive a maximum of one consultation per day.  The Tallahassee Bar Association, which worked with the Leon County Circuit Court to create the Low Bono Center, will provide experienced attorneys to help clients understand their cases.

Some individuals may not be fully aware of the rights we, as Florida residents, have to public information. In recognition of Sunshine Week  March 14-20   clerks throughout the state are celebrating transparency in government, and our role in providing residents access to important public, court and historic records. As clerk of court and comptroller in Leon County, I am proud of my responsibility and ability to provide our citizens with access to records and the resources they need to be active members of the community. Maintaining transparency and equal access to public information is one of my core responsibilities as your clerk of court – and one I take very seriously.

Geitz to not seek re-election in 2021; City formally accepts $700,000 CDBG grant

Emporia City Commissioners KVOE News File Photo When election season rolls around this year there will be at least one seat open on the Emporia City Commission. At the tail-end of the commission s regular action session, Wednesday afternoon commissioner Jon Geitz announced he will not be filing for re-election this year. Geitz has served on the commission for the last seven years after being elected back in April of 2013.
