With little besides training camps standing in the way of the 2021 NFL season, now is a good time to step back and play the projections game.
Now that the draft is over, we can include it in projecting the worst moves of the offseason to this point.
At about this time last year, the worst moves weren t too difficult to figure out. The Chicago Bears had traded for Nick Foles. The Houston Texans had dealt DeAndre Hopkins. Green Bay drafted Jordan Love.
This year the list is highlighted by odd trades, questionable team directions and moves that put franchises in cap danger or saw them sacrifice too many assets for the expected return. We ll rank the nine worst moves primarily by the projected long-term damage.
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. Before the start of the 2021 NFL draft, Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay made his stance clear: the roster did not have any pressing, must-fill needs. We don t have any major glaring holes where it s like, Okay, you ve got to address this position or else, McVay said. We re not really asking anybody to feel like they have to come in and immediately start.
The Rams went into the draft with six picks, but three trades later, general manager Les Snead made nine selections. The Rams added four offensive players and five on defense. All of these guys provide tremendous value, McVay said. They all love football and their skill sets are different, but I think they really fill out the rooms that they re going into.
2021-2022 Giants Season Outlook: The Case for Optimism By wheeels on May 3, 2021, 7:07pm EDT +
With the conclusion of the draft, all that s left to do is look forward to training camp, then the start of the season. The Giants are building momentum, going from 2-14 to one game shy of a playoff birth in just two years under Dave Gettleman and I believe that the Giants will continue to building on this success in Joe Judge s second year as head coach. Here s why:
1. Improved Health
If the 2020 New York Giants stay healthy, they are a postseason team. It s more than Saquon Barkley s unfortunate and grisly injury in week 2, Daniel Jones was clearly hampered by am ankle injury in the second half of the season that saw him miss time, and not look the same upon return. It s not controversial to say that the Giants win at least one more game with their Quarterback and star Running Back healthy, so getting Jones and Barkley back at 100% is exciting. Even in a good draft year, it’s rare for an NFL team to play all of its rookies. Mathematically speaking, most draft picks don’t play a significant role in their first year.
The Giants drafted 10 players last year. Remarkably, nine of them made the 53-man roster after training camp, and eight of them played either significant or important snaps at some point in the season.

The Giants knew going into the NFL Draft that they had a need for pass rushers on defense. The problem: This class didn’t have any prospects graded by most evaluators as worth of the 11th pick, where the Giants originally were selecting in the first round. They passed on picking one after they traded back to No. 20.
They remained patient, and ultimately drafted a player many had projected as their first-round pick all the way at 50th overall in the second round.
