PRESCOTT – The federal and provincial governments have come to the table to help the Town of Prescott build a new recreation complex to replace the closed Leo Boivin Community Center.
Mayor Brett Todd emceed a virtual event at noon Wednesday peppered with hockey analogies as Federal Infrastructure Minister Catherine McKenna announced $5.3 million for the town to build a replacement for the Leo Boivin Community Center.
The money is coming from the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) from the Community, Culture and Recreation Infrastructure Stream, which will see the Ontario government contribute $4.4 million. The Town of Prescott is putting about $5 million into the project.

There were smiles and grins all around on Wednesday as the federal and provincial governments announced a combined $9.7 million toward the cost of the project to replace the old Leo Boivin Community Centre that was mothballed in 2018.

A gleeful Mayor Brett Todd said the governments’ commitments and the money raised by a local fundraising committee should allow the town to get the tender out the door and shovels in the ground by July, with a completion date in late 2022 or the spring of 2023.

John Henderson has seen plenty of goaltending in the 65 years since his final NHL game. Today, at age 87 the Boston Bruins oldest living goalie, he considers the current crop and says he likes Jakob Markstrom of the Calgary Flames best of all.
It doesn t hurt that before signing with the Flames as a free agent Oct. 9, Markstrom played the previous five seasons for the Vancouver Canucks, who play their home games a little over 30 miles from Henderson s home in White Rock, British Columbia.
