The first race has already been completed on the street circuit in Baku. Formula 2 is also running in Azerbaijan this weekend and will have three races. On Saturday morning the first race was driven, with a messy opening lap and successes for the junior team of Ferrari and a Dutch driver.
Robert Shwartzman, driver for Prema and junior in the Ferrari program, started from pole and immediately drove away from the competition. The Russian driver was never really put under pressure and also set the fastest lap. Behind the Russian however, there was plenty going on. Williams-reserve driver Jack Aitken hit the wall and the man of yesterday, Liam Lawson, retired after a collision with Oscar Piastri.
With the contract extension of Lando Norris, McLaren has already secured two drivers for 2022. In a year where the rules and thus the cars will change completely, stability within your team is a good thing. The Silly Season has started, so it is time to take a look at the other teams.
