Taipei. CNA photo May 11, 2021 Taipei, May 11 (CNA) Inventories of surgical face masks in Taiwan remain sufficient to meet demand at a time when the country is seeing rising concerns over an increase in domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) said Tuesday. On its Facebook page, the MOEA said the current face mask inventory tops 800 million units, with daily production hitting 18.30 million units on average and a maximum daily capacity of 40 million units. Judging from the figures, the MOEA said, Taiwan has sufficient supplies to cope with the rising number of indigenous COVID-19 cases. The MOEA s assurance came after Health and Welfare Minister Chen Shih-chung (陳時中) said earlier in the day that Taiwan has entered a community COVID-19 transmission stage after seven new domestic cases were reported, six of which were from unknown sources.

Taiwan bans China job ads in response to talent poaching

Taiwan bans China job ads in response to talent poaching 04/30/2021 01:39 PM CNA file photo Taipei, April 30 (CNA) The Ministry of Labor (MOL) recently sent an official notice to several online job banks, indicating it is stepping up the enforcement of laws that prohibit them from helping Chinese employers recruit employees in Taiwan by placing job ads on their platforms. Several job recruiting websites including 104, 1111 and yes123 confirmed Thursday they have received the notice. According to yes123, it has removed around 200 job openings in China from its website, most of which were in the preschool education sector. The ministry s notice stated that the development of China s semiconductor industry has been adversely impacted by the U.S.-China technology war, so Beijing has resorted to stealing technology and poaching talent from Taiwan to build its own semiconductor supply chain.
