A HIGH-TECH Limerick company helped much-loved serial drama Ros na Rún complete its 25th series without any Covid-19 disruption.
Tracworx, based at Steamboat Quay, develops real-time patient tracking systems for hospitals across Ireland.
At the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, staff helped develop a tracing device to use in environments where mobile phone use is restricted, with the new project enabling the firm’s chief executive to be able to keep his full complement of staff employed in lockdown.
The device was picked up by the production company for the TG4 soap, which is filmed in the remote Galway Gaeltacht village of Spiddal.
Aldi reveals big spend with Limerick food and drink producers

SUPERMARKET chain Aldi sourced almost €10m of locally produced food and drink from Limerick producers last year.
The discount retailer has revealed that €9.5m was spent with six producers in Limerick, including its long-term relationship with Twomey’s Bakery in Dromcollogher and Glen Aine Foods near Knocklong.
Aldi – which is seeking to open a new supermarket in Roches Street – is planning to boost its annual national spend on food and drink by 17.5% to €1bn in 2021, with more opportunities available to Limerick suppliers.
Operating three local stories, Aldi employs 95 full time staff, and has 13 new permanent positions on offer.
Danish retailer Jysk plans second store in Limerick

DANISH furniture retailer Jysk looks set to open its second store in Limerick.
The company has announced its intention to apply for planning permission to Limerick City and County Council to open in the last remaining vacant unit at the Ennis Road retail park in Caherdavin.
Founded in Denmark in 1979 by Lars Larsen, Jysk’s Scandinavian design ethic and stylish approach to interiors has made the brand known and loved across the world.
CONFIRMED: Ulster Bank announces phased withdrawal from Irish market

ULSTER Bank has confirmed it s to withdraw from the Republic of Ireland on a phased basis over the coming years.
As was widely expected, the decision was made following a strategic review by its parent company, NatWest.
Ulster Bank operates two branches in Limerick - at O Connell Street in the city centre and at the Crescent Shopping Centre in Dooradoyle. It also owns a small number of ATMs across the city and county.
In a statement confirming the decision to exit the Irish market, the bank said there will be no branch closures or compulsory redundancies during 2021 and that customers do not need to do anything in the short term.

ONE of Limerick’s most impressive businesses, Odyssey Studios, has been announced as a winner at this year’s National Enterprise Awards.
The 22nd annual awards, which took place virtually, were streamed from the Mansion House in Dublin last night.
Odyssey Studios, which was set up by Mark Maher in 2017, took home the South West Region award.
The state-of-the art model making studio is based on the Dock Road and is one of the largest permanent model making studios in Europe.
