People of color were hurt by a lack of access to early voting in Rensselaer County according to the State Attorney General.
Letitia James has filed a lawsuit after she says the county s board of elections ignored criteria that is required by law when taking into account where early voting sites are set up. She points to a lack of early voting sites in the city of Troy where there is a large number of Black, Hispanic, and low-income voters who rely on public transportation to vote. A number of community advocates had repeatedly requested better access. A spokesman for the Rensselaer County Executive s office says in the coming days it will be reviewing the lawsuit filed by James.

Employees who feel ill after being vaccinated against COVID-19 will now get a paid sick day if they have to miss work.
Governor Cuomo announced the new policy Thursday, citing a study from the Kaiser Family Foundation showing that 48-percent of unvaccinated people are worried about missing work due to the side effects of getting their shots. Employers already have to provide workers time off so they can receive the COVID-19 vaccination. The governor says the state is working hard to remove any barriers that would prevent people from getting vaccinated.
