London, 6 April 2021:
U.S. Ambassador Richard Norland and Emad Al-Sayah head of Libya’s High National Elections Commission (HNEC) met today in Tunis, the U.S. Embassy reports.
The embassy said Norland received an update on planning for Libya’s national elections on 24 December 2021. Norland congratulated Al-Sayah on preparations completed so far, and on the highly competent, independent and apolitical way in which HNEC has carried out its technical tasks in preparation for this historic event in Libya’s political life.

London, 21 January 2021:
The U.S. has reaffirmed its support for Libya’s planned 24 December elections. This is the first comment by the U.S. under the newly inaugurated U.S. President, Joe Biden.
The reaffirmation came yesterday during a virtual meeting between U.S. Ambassador to Libya Richard Norden and Emad Al-Sayah, head of Libya’s High National Elections Commission (HNEC). HNEC is the entity that would oversee the elections.
The statement will also send a message to potential status quo obstructers.
Here is the U.S. Embassy’s report on the meeting in full:
‘‘Yesterday, U.S. Ambassador to Libya Richard Norland and Dr. Emad Al-Sayah of the High National Elections Commission (HNEC) discussed U.S. support as Libya prepares to hold national elections on December 24, 2021, as agreed by the UN-facilitated Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF).

London, 7 January 2021:
Libya’s High National Elections Commission (HNEC) said yesterday that it is 70 percent ready and preparing to hold national presidential and parliamentary elections on the 24 December of this year.
HNEC member, Abdelhakim Belkheir, was quoted saying yesterday that HNEC is dealing with all parties and that a large number of members of the two governments are pushing for elections.
He said next week HNEC’s offices will be opened in the southern region, adding that the value allocated to it after the adoption of the new exchange rate adjustment will be $10 million, stressing that it will not be enough to hold the elections.
