Used for decades, Georgia absentee ballots took on new life this year. Praised by some as a way to vote safely during the pandemic, now they’re the centerpiece of Republican conspiracy theories as a way Joe Biden “stole” the election.
While Georgia Republicans are pushing to change the ballot signature verification process prior to the Jan. 5 U.S. Senate and Public Service Commission runoffs, almost 1.2 million voters already have applied to vote by mail and election officials expect that number to grow. More than 4.1 million applied to vote by mail in the general election.
