Trump-Era Official Settles With OSC Over Hatch Act Violation
Lynne Patton, a former Trump administration appointee, reached a settlement with the Office of Special Counsel (OSC) after being accused of violating the Hatch Act, a law that bars public officials from using their position to engage in political activity.
Patton, who served as Region II Administrator for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) from 2017 to earlier this year, admitted to breaking the regulation by producing a video about housing conditions for the Republican National Convention (RNC), according to an OSC press release.
As a HUD employee, Patton met with residents of the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) and recruited some of them to appear in a video explaining how their living conditions had improved under the tenure of President Donald Trump.

WASHINGTON â Democrats might not have the votes to gut the filibuster, but they were just handed the procedural keys to a backdoor assault on the Senateâs famous obstruction tactic.
With a ruling on Monday that Democrats can reuse this yearâs budget blueprint at least once to employ the fast-track reconciliation process, Democrats can conceivably advance multiple spending and tax packages this year alone without a single Republican vote as long as they hold their 50 members together. It is a means of weakening the filibuster without having to take the politically charged vote to do so.

As Rich mentioned in Slog AM: Biden officially announced that he was moving up the federal vaccine eligibility for all adults to April 19. In a speech today, he warned that the pandemic remains dangerous, with cases going back up, variants spreading, and hospitalization remaining at a plateau. While this moved-up timeline doesn t at all mean that everyone will have their first dose by that day, it does mean that all adults can at least get in line for one. The president also announced that the U.S. has now administered 150 millions shots, well on the way to his goal of 200 million by the end of his first 100 days in office on April 30.
