The Dark and the Wicked review – Entertainment Focus

February 24, 2021 Louise (Marin Ireland) and her brother Michael (Michael Abbott Jr.) return to their family home when they receive the news that their ailing father (Michael Zagst) is dying. They find their mother (Julie Oliver-Touchstone) acting strangely, and when an unexpected tragedy occurs, the siblings start to fear that there is an evil inside the house that is targeting the family. As they struggle to tell the difference between reality and hallucinations, Louise and Michael are thrown into a battle against a dark force. ‘The Dark and the Wicked’ is from writer/director Bryan Bertino who is perhaps best-known for writing 2008 horror hit ‘The Strangers’. With Bertino on board, I had high hopes for this film, expecting another twisted and shocking story that unravels slowly over the running time. A Bloody Good Time: The Top 10 Horror Films of 2020

Woof. What a year. I’m not one who subscribes to the idea that a calendar change will automatically mean bad times end, but I’m still glad to have 2020 in my rearview. Not even counting the bad things that happened in my own personal life, the world in general either went to hell or the hellscape became more prominently displayed. But yeah, Larry was a guy I got to know in the process of working with him seven or eight years, every weekday morning. I considered him a friend and for him to just suddenly be gone was numbing.

Movie Review - The Dark and the Wicked (2020)

Directed by Bryan Bertino. SYNOPSIS: Two siblings discover that their home has been taken over by a dark presence, as they mourn their father’s painful passing. That old phrase ‘Abandon hope all ye who enter here’ taken from Dante Alighieri’s Inferno would have been an apt tagline for this film. Also, it would have functioned as an effective way to warn all viewers in advance regarding the bleak nature of the movie in general. Because in all honesty, this is one devastatingly bleak and overwhelmingly dark affair, I kid you not. The story follows two siblings as they journey back to their ancestral home, a secluded farm in a rural town, to mourn their father’s deteriorating health status. It is a trying time for all present, as they put aside their individual differences to tend to the needs of the now-ailing patriarch. But their miserable situation is further complicated with their mother’s increasingly volatile mental state and her sudden demise the next day followi
