Vaccine appointments for youths fill up after CDC recommends Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine
COVID-19 vaccine signups for at least two locations at Edina Public Schools are already filled up after the CDC recommended the Pfizer vaccine can be used for the 12- to 15-year-old age group.
(FOX 9) - Beginning Thursday, May 13, children as young as 12 can start getting vaccinated against COVID-19.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention endorsed the two-dose Pfizer vaccine for children 12-15 on Wednesday, making it the only COVID-19 vaccine currently authorized for people ages 12-17.
ST. PAUL, Minn. (WKBT) Minnesota is ready to begin vaccinating 12- to 15-year-olds this week in the wake of the Food and Drug Administration’s authorization of Pfizer/BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine for that age group, Gov. Tim Walz said Monday.
“This is an extraordinary development on our path back to normalcy,” Walz said of the FDA action earlier in the day. “We now have nearly 300,000 more Minnesotans eligible to roll up their sleeves and get life-saving protection from this deadly disease.”
State health officials “have been planning and preparing for this moment and are ready to begin vaccinating teens 12 and older,” he said. “Let’s get our kids their shot as soon as possible so they are fully vaccinated and protected in time for a fun, safe summer.”

That s according to Gov. Tim Walz, who on Monday said the state will announce when it expects parents can make appointments for their kids after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issues its final federal guidance.
The CDC s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices meets Wednesday, with the guidance expected to come after that. So parents could be able to start making appointments for their kids later this week.

Vaccine-eligible Minnesotans can walk in for a COVID-19 shot without an appointment at the state s Community Vaccination Program locations effective immediately, the governor s office announced Friday. Walk-ins for Minnesotans age 16 and older are now accepted at the state sites in Bloomington at the Mall of America, St. Paul at the Roy Wilkins Auditorium, Lino Lakes and Oakdale. Walk-ins for Minnesotans 18 and up are now accepted at the Mankato, Duluth, Rochester and St. Cloud sites. The federally-supported State Fairgrounds site is not currently accepting walk-ins.
