Blaževič/LRT A new constitutional amendment on running for parliament after impeachment will be submitted to the Lithuanian Seimas on Thursday. Should the parliament adopt the amendment in its first reading, the bill would go to the Committee on Legal Affairs and would then be sent to a plenary session in the autumn. The proposed amendment to Article 74 of the constitution would pave the way for a person impeached and removed from office to stand for election no sooner than ten years after impeachment.

Lithuanian ministry names Valancius as best candidate for EU judge 2021-05-10 BNS/TBT Staff VILNIUS – The Lithuanian Justice Ministry on Monday named Virginijus Valancius as the best candidate for a General Court judge, the post he is currently holding.  Two years ago, President Gitanas Nauseda did not approve of Valancius re-appointment.  Valancius scored the highest among all eight applicants interviewed by a selection panel headed by Justice Minister Evelina Dobrovolska, the ministry said. Valancius nomination has yet to be approved by the government, the president and the parliament.   If Lithuania nominates Valancius, he will have to be endorsed by a special Luxembourg-based panel.

The president will address the Polish Sejm and take part in a presidential discussion on the European Union, Ridas Jasiulionis, Nausėda s spokesman, told BNS. A more detailed programme of the visit scheduled for May 2 and 3 is to be presented on Thursday. Rasa Jakilaitienė, spokeswoman for Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė, confirmed to BNS that Morawiecki is expected to pay a working visit to Vilnius on Sunday.
