Member for Auburn Lynda Voltz says the public health order banning residents from Sydney’s hotspots from attending the Test match at Sydney Cricket Ground on Thursday is appropriate because it is keeping the city safe.
Health Minister Brad Hazzard has flagged New South Wales Police will be granted powers to issue $1000 fines for any residents from coronavirus hotspots attending the Test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
On Tuesday, Mr Hazzard announced while tickets for the match are on sale, people who live in suburbs near the BWS store in Berala will be barred from buying tickets.
Those suburbs consist of Auburn, Lidcombe North, Berala, Regents Park and Rookwood.
“We’ve always taken the view that we shouldn’t have crowds at the cricket,” Ms Voltz said. “If a public health order - at least for those suburbs - keeps Sydney safe, we think that’s appropriate.”
