A ‘people pleaser,’ former anchorwoman found her new role

For the longest time, Lisa Schmidt saw herself as a broadcast journalist, and for the longest time, she was.
Sharpened by a degree from West Texas A&M University in mass communications with an emphasis in broadcast, Schmidt spent almost 20 years at KVII in Amarillo as prime time anchor, morning host, reporter, producer, even a little sales – though not all at the same time.
A little of Dr. Leigh Browning went a long way. A lot of Leigh Browning went even further. The legendary WT mass communication professor drove her students to be better than they thought they could be.
Al Schmitt, Maestro of Recorded Sound, Is Dead at 91
The winner of multiple Grammys, he engineered or produced records by Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Jefferson Airplane and many others.

Al Schmitt, who as a boy watched Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters record music in his uncle’s studio, and who went on to become a Grammy Award-winning engineer for a long roster of artists including Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles and Diana Krall, died on April 26 at his home in Bell Canyon, Calif. He was 91.

Earlier this month, the Village of Belmont and Town of Amity began working on creating a joint comprehensive plan.
While the Town last did an update in 2015, the Village has never had a plan in place, making this a great opportunity for both communities to work together on a vision for the future. The Comprehensive Plan Committee is comprised of Dana Hand, Jeff Butler, Lisa Schmitt, Don Skinner, Caroline Mapes, Barb Zlomek, Gretchen Hanchett, and Wendy Skinner.
Comprehensive planning is used to determine a community’s goals and aspirations when it comes to community development. Michelle Denhoff and Nick Arquette from the Allegany County Planning Office are working with the committee to identify long term projects and concepts.
Los Altos Hills council eyes banning drone use in preserves

Concerned about the safety of horses and equestrians in Byrne Preserve, above, the Los Altos Hills City Council is considering an ordinance banning remote-controlled vehicles like drones from the preserve unless the city manager’s office approves first.
When Los Altos Hills City Council members give a second look to a proposed ordinance banning drones and other remote-powered model vehicles in town open spaces, they’ll likely have to weigh conflicting recommendations from advisory committees.
Council members at their April 15 meeting unanimously agreed to introduce an amendment to the town municipal code that would prohibit model vehicles from Byrne Preserve, and they directed the Open Space and the Parks and Recreation committees to consider further limiting acceptable locations.
