After David Crawford left his job as the police chief of Laurel, Md., in 2010, he spent the next decade nursing grudges and setting fires to punish others, investigators say. In a stunning turn of events, Crawford, a law enforcement veteran, is now under arrest and facing dozens of charges in connection to at least 12 fires at homes, garages and cars.

Crawford was a serial arsonist, according to the Prince George s County Fire/EMS Department. It adds that investigators suspicions about Crawford were confirmed when a search of his house turned up a target list of fire victims on his cellphone.

Former Maryland police chief David M. Crawford (CNN)A former Maryland police chief is facing multiple arson and attempted murder charges in connection with 11 fires spanning from 2011 to 2020, according to a news release from the Prince George s County Fire/EMS Department.
Authorities determined the homes, garages and vehicles that were set on fire were all connected to people with whom David M. Crawford had previous disagreements, according to the release.
An ex-Maryland police chief allegedly acted as a "serial arsonist," intentionally starting at least a dozen fires across the state over the past decade to target people he had disagreements with, officials said.
