Fort Wayne has had a decades-long love affair with Abraham Lincoln and his legacy.
One of the most prominent corporations in America, the Lincoln National Life Insurance Company, born and built in Fort Wayne, is named for the 16th president.
I spent many a happy childhood afternoon at the now-shuttered Abraham Lincoln Museum where, on entering that august institution, the first thing a visitor gazed upon was a small letter in a glass case from Lincoln s only surviving son, Robert Todd Lincoln, giving his permission and approval to the founders of Lincoln National to use his father s name.

This 275-square-mile anomaly of undulating gypsum sand dunes, established as a national monument in 1933, has drawn humans for more than 10,000 years to its otherworldly environs. Today, even in the midst of a pandemic, the recently designated national park attracts record numbers of visitors from all over.
