Rain fell in the area near Ruidoso where the fire was burning on Thursday, assisting crews in fighting the blaze.
U.S. Rep. Yvette Herrell visited Lincoln County Thursday for a briefing on the fire and efforts to contain it.
In a statement posted on Facebook on April 26, when the fire was first detected about three miles from the Three Rivers Campground in Lincoln National Forest, Herrell urged anyone in the area to heed warnings from officials. No structures have reportedly burned so far. Increased moisture and humidity have slowed spread through grasses; dead and downed fuel is currently smoldering, the update states. Fire activity is expected to increase later in the day and wind direction is expected to shift, blowing the fire back onto already burned areas.

According to forestry officials, the fire broke out on Monday near the Three Rivers Campground, spreading almost to Ski Apache and into the Big Bonito area. Overnight into Tuesday, the fire doubled in size, spreading across 12,000 acres onto Mescalero Apache Tribal Land.
Last night the crew got some help thanks to Mother Nature as snow and rain fell in the area and are expecting more of the same conditions throughout today.
Over 200 crew personnel have been onsite attempting to extinguish the flames and are set to receive additional resources to help combat the fire.
